Cochran, GA – Middle Georgia State College baseball and head coach Paul Knight open the 2014 season on Saturday February 1 hosting Southern Union Community College at historic Stuckey Field. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 PM with pregame ceremonies starting about 1:45. After the game, Diamond Club Jamboree Dinner will begin at 7:00 PM in Georgia Dining Hall and will honor the National Championship teams of 1979, 1980, 1982, and 1995. Many members from these four teams will be in attendance along with the former head coach of the Warriors and former University of Georgia Coach, Robert Sapp.
Coach Sapp spent 20 years at Middle Georgia College totaling 890 wins, four National Championships and was runner up twice during that time. He led his team to nine Region 17 championships and won the Southwest District seven times. He was named NJCAA Coach of the Year four times and was the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) Coach of the Year nine times. He was inducted into the NJCAA Hall of Fame in 1995.

Jeff Treadway: (1980-81) Member of 1980 National Championship Team at MGC; Drafted in 1984 by Cincinnati Reds, also played for Atlanta Braves, Cleveland Indians, Dodgers, and Montreal Expos from 1987-1995
Ernest Riles: (1980-81) Member of 1980 National Championship Team at MGC; Drafted in 1981 by the Milwaukee Brewers, also played for San Francisco Giants, Oakland Athletics, Houston Astros, and Boston Red Sox in MLB from 1985-1993
Many other former players will be in attendance that have gone on to professional careers in addition to Middle Georgia State College’s new President, Dr. Christopher Blake.
Admission to the game that day will be $5.00 at the gate. Admission to the Jamboree dinner at 7:00 PM is $20 for non-Diamond Club members and $10 for children $10 12 and under. Please RSVP by January 17 at 12:00PM. If you are interested in joining the MGSC Diamond Club, you may do so at the door.
