West GA tech raps up fall baseball action Saturday against UWG

CARROLLTON, Georgia – The West Georgia Tech baseball team will wrap up the competitive portion of its fall exhibition slate with a doubleheader against the University of West Georgia this Saturday.

Todd Pratt’s unit has been preparing to enter its third season as a D-1 junior college program, and second season with scholarship student-athletes, after an impressive third place showing in last year’s conference tournament.

“We have had a great fall and the guys have come together well,” Pratt said. “We have had a few injuries in spots but I believe everyone will be healthy once spring practice starts.”

A positive this fall for the Golden Knights has been the emergence of sophomore leadership and the development of freshmen newcomers, according to Pratt. A number of transfers will add talent and experience to the mix.
“I am excited to see some of the transfers play this spring,” Pratt said. “If this fall is any indication of what they can do, we have a lot to look forward to as a program.”

West Georgia Tech has played exhibition contests against Chattanooga State, Southern Union and Georgia Perimeter, all considered to be among the best junior college programs in the region.

The Golden Knights and UWG will meet in fall exhibition action for a second-consecutive season.

“It’s great to have this exhibition against coach Fite’s club. It is good experience for our guys and a great recruiting tool for coach Fite. I expect a good crowd,” Pratt said.

First pitch for Saturday’s doubleheader is at 12 p.m. at Cole Field on the UWG campus.
