WGTC Baseball drops double header to LaGrange JV

LAGRANGE, Georgia – West Georgia Tech opened the 2015 baseball season with a pair of losses on the road Saturday afternoon to the LaGrange College junior varsity team.

LaGrange College J.V. won game one 5-4 and took the second game of the twin bill 6-3.

In game one West Georgia Tech (0-2) erased a 2-1 deficit with three runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 4-2 lead. But LaGrange College answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame to tie it at 4-4.

The Panthers (2-0) added the go-ahead run in the sixth to close out the scoring at 5-4.

Blane Swift hit a towering homerun to left field in the third inning, which tied the game at that point, 1-1. Swift went 2-for-3 for the game.

Bryce Todd was 3-for-4 at the plate for West Georgia Tech.

Golden Knights ace pitcher Nick Andress pitched five innings and allowed four runs – all earned – on four hits. Andress struck out six and walked four.

Drew Flatford relieved him in the sixth and gave up a run on one hit to pick up the loss.
West Georgia Tech dropped game two, 6-3. LaGrange College jumped out to an early 5-0 lead after two innings with three runs in the first and two runs in the second, all charged to WGTC starter Kenny Bailey.

The Golden Knights got on the board in the sixth with another solo homerun from Blane Swift – his second of the day. That made the score 5-1, but LaGrange added another run in the bottom of the inning to extend its lead to 6-1. WGTC added two in the seventh to close out the scoring at 6-3.

WGTC had just four hits offensively, with Andy Macohbee and Zach Sims collecting doubles.

Ty Wood and Trevor Billings provided 4 and 2/3 innings of combined relief - allowing just one run on one hit.

West Georgia Tech will return to LaGrange on Tuesday for another doubleheader against the LaGrange College J.V., with game one starting at 3 p.m.
