Swamp Foxes read to Memorial Dr students

November 6, 2012

Members of Waycross College’s men’s basketball team recently took time out of their class and practice schedules to visit with students at Memorial Drive Elementary School in Waycross (top photo). The players read books to different classes, including Lavaontay Evans who shared a book in Mrs. Kimberly Dixon’s third grade class. The players also answered questions from the students about basketball and life as a college student athlete. The Swamp Foxes’ visit was coordinated by Mrs. Rebecca Herrin, school counselor at Memorial Drive, and WC head basketball coach Cory Baldwin. Since his arrival in Waycross three years ago, Baldwin has consistently plugged his players into elementary classrooms as a way for the Swamp foxes to make a contribution to the community. Currently, the 2012-2013 Swamp Foxes are 2-0 and travel to Americus, Ga. this weekend to play in the South Georgia Technical College Classic.
