The Chargers fought off a tough Central Georgia Tech squad to win back to back NJCAA Region 17 Championships with a 78-72 win. With the win the Chargers get an automatic birth in the NJCAA National Basketball Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas.
Georgia Highlands got off to a sluggish start and at one point was down by 12 points yet magaged to get into their tempo and come back and go into halftime tied at 37. The Chargers lead the entire second half increasing their lead to 12 with 3 minutes only to see the lead shrink to 3 with under a minute to play. Clutch free throws by the Chargers stayed off the Titans to secure the win.
Doniel Dean led the way with 23 points and was named Tournament MVP. Kyvon Davenport had 17 points and was also named to the All Tournament team, followed by Tylik Evans with 13 points.
Chargers are headed back to the National Tournament where they went to the Final Four in last years tournament.
