Andrew's Connor Heydon Named National Player of the Week

FIGHTING TIGER NAMED NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

CONNOR HEYDON NAMED NATIONS BEST FOR GAMES PLAYED AUG. 20-30

Cuthbert, Ga. -- Freshman forward Connor Heydon has been named as the National Junior College Athletic Association Men's Soccer Player of the Week for all games played Aug. 20-30, the national office announced on Wednesday.

"I'm looking forward to continuing my good form and helping the Fighting Tigers progress further and further into the future," said Heydon. "But there's no 'I' in team and would like to give credit to all the players and coaches around me for the support and effort they've put in."

Heydon, a freshman from New South Wales, Australia, opened his collegiate career by scoring the decisive game winning goal against Patrick Henry CC (Va.) in the 71st minute to upset the Patriots 2-1 in the opening match of the 2015 Kickoff Classic on Friday, Aug. 21 in front of 172 fans at Hord Athletic Complex.

"Connor is so deserving of this distinction," said head coach Rudy Roediger. "Not only is he an outstanding soccer player, but he is an excellent student and an esteemed member of the college community."

The goal by Heydon led Andrew to its first victory over an NJCAA Division I opponent since Oct. 1, 2012, when AC defeated Georgia Military, 1-0, thus breaking a streak of 23 losses that lasted 1,054 days.
After an impressive debut, Heydon continued his high-level play in the final game of the 2015 Kickoff Classic, providing the game winning assist to Lewis Jones in Andrew's 2-1 win over Broward College (Fla.), earning the Fighting Tigers' their first back-to-back victories to open the season in modern history.

"It's an honor to be awarded the player of the week award for NJCAA Division I," said Heydon. "It's been a long road to get here and I'm glad that all my hard work is finally paying off on the pitch."

In his third career appearance Heydon set a new career mark when the Maitland Grossman High School alum netted two goals and provided an assist in the Fighting Tigers, 6-1, victory at East Central CC (Miss.) on Friday, Aug. 28.

A day later the 6-foot-0 forward netted two goals in a 3-1 victory at Holmes CC (Miss.), as Andrew College moved to 4-0-0 on the season with its fourth consecutive victory over an NJCAA Division I opponent.

Heydon finished the week with the second most goals (5) and points (13) in the nation.

Andrew College will return to action on Thursday with a 5:45 p.m. EST kickoff at Hord Athletic Complex against LaGrange College JV. Live broadcast for the match can be found HERE
