Higgerson, Lady Cavs sweep Georgia Military

ALBANY – Darton State sophomore Jostlyn Higgerson was unstoppable as the Lady Cavs swept Georgia Military College in a doubleheader today at Darton. The sophomore from Enterprise, Ala., hit a pair of homeruns in the first game to seal a comeback 7-5 win before taking the mound and throwing three strikeouts to win the second game 9-2.

Darton was down 3-1 in the 6th inning of the first game when HIggerson, who was playing 1st base, hit a 3-run homer to turn the table in Darton’s favor. GMC answered with a pair of runs in the following inning to tie the game at 5-5. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Higgerson hit a two-run homerun to win the game 7-5.

Her second homerun tied Darton’s team record for most homeruns in a season at 38.

It would be Darton sophomore Savannah Carlisle who would break that record, sending a 3-run blast over the wall in the fifth inning of game two. Bree Wells hit a two-run homer in the sixth to put Darton up to 40 home runs so far this season.

Darton also set a new record for stolen bases today and is now 3rd in the nation for stolen bases with 104.

The Lady Cavs are now 28-10 and will travel to Tifton, Tuesday, to play ABAC in a doubleheader at 2 p.m.
