Warner Robins, GA – The Central Georgia Technical College (CGTC) women's basketball team defeated East Georgia State College, 66-51,Wednesday night at Larry Walker Arena in Warner Robins. The victory moved the Lady Titans to a 3-1 record in conference play and 12-5 overall.
In their first game of the New Year, the Lady Titans started the game in attack mode behind the leadership of sophomores Ra'Keta Shelton and Aleisha Merriweather. The tandem exerted their dominance in the paint for the Lady Titans throughout the competition, proving to be a handful for the East Georgia State Bobcats. Shelton and Merriweather recorded a combined 27 of the Lady Titans' 65 total rebounds.
While the Lady Titans struggled offensively, shooting 27-of-80 (33.8 percent) from the field and 5-of-28 (17.9 percent) from the three-point line, the team capitalized off East Georgia State's turnovers with 22 points.
Tallying a double-double at halftime, Shelton finished the game with 15 points, 14 rebounds, and three assists. Merriweather finished with a game-high 19 points, 13 rebounds, two assists, and two blocks.
Sophomores Lauren Duncan and Shambria Smith rounded out the Lady Titans' double-digit scorers. Duncan recorded 11 points, two rebounds, three assists, and one steal, while Smith finished with 10 points, three rebounds, two assists, one block, and two steals.
The Lady Titans take the court on the road Saturday, January 9 when they travel to Atlanta Metropolitan College. Game time begins at2:00 p.m.
