Golden Knights sweep Mid-South CC
TALLAPOOSA, Ga. – The West Georgia Tech Golden Knights swept a pair of close games over the Mid-South Community College Greyhounds in basketball action Saturday afternoon in Tallapoosa.
WGTC MEN 86, MID-SOUTH C.C. 85
Mid-South had a chance to win at the buzzer but an 18-footer from the baseline hit the back of the iron to give West Georgia Tech an 86-86 victory.
The Golden Knights, winners of three of its last four, improved to 5-7 on the season. West Georgia Tech is now 4-0 in games decided by four points or less.
Mid-South fell to 5-6.
Randazerro Chaney led four Golden Knights in double-figures with 22 points and six assists. Victor Wynn added 15 points, Blair Austin scored 13 and Alyja Hennings had 11 points to round out the double-figure scoring for the Knights.
Trevail Lee had 20 points and Rodney Ollison scored 18 to lead Mid-South in scoring.
The Greyhounds led 47-43 at halftime.
WGTC WOMEN 97, MID-SOUTH C.C. 90 (OT)
Sharika Pennamon scored a season-high 29 points, including a runner in the lane to tie the score at 83-83 with :04 seconds in regulation to send the game into overtime, as the Golden Knights women won a thriller over Mid-South, 97-90.
The 97 points were the most points scored in team history.
The Golden Knights have won two straight games to improve to 4-10 overall. Mid-South is 5-7.
Pennamon was 11-of-18 from the field and 7-of-10 from the charity stripe.
Sha’Ron Forte had 19 points on the day followed by Nicole Marshall with 18. Victoria Conner scored 15 to round out the double-figure scorers.
The Golden Knights shot 46.8 percent from the field (36-of-77).
The West Georgia Tech women will close out the pre-Christmas schedule on the road Thursday night at Gadsden State (Ala.).
The men are off until a January 5th home game against Snead State (Ala.).
