Darton State falls to Middle Georgia despite great pitching effort
ALBANY – Davis Adkins did his part on the mound, but it wasn't enough to carry the Cavaliers to a win on Thursday, as Darton State fell to Middle Georgia College 4-3 in 10 innings in Game 5 of the Region 17/GCAA Baseball Championship.
The loss puts Darton up against No. 1 seed Georgia Perimeter College at 7 p.m., today. Georgia Perimeter lost at noon today against West Georgia Technical College.
Adkins worked out of six tough spots for Darton State College Cavaliers. He pitched 10 innings and allowed no earned runs on seven hits. Adkins faced his toughest moment in the tenth inning.
Blake Shouse got the win for Middle Georgia College. He allowed one run over two innings. He struck out three, walked none and surrendered three hits.
The top of the first saw Darton State College Cavaliers take an early lead, 1-0. Davis Knapp singled to ignite Darton State College Cavaliers' offense. A single by Cody Wofford then moved Knapp from first to second. Knapp stole third and was batted in by Brandon Sharpe.
In the first pitch of the third inning, Darton scored againt on a solo home run by Kody Adams. Darton State College Cavaliers matched its one-run third inning with one more in the ninth, thanks to a Kyle Conkle RBI that drove in Wofford.
