Cavs finish 4th at District IV Championship

Pendleton, S.C. – Darton State finished the 2013 NJCAA District IV Golf Championship in fourth place, today, in Pendleton, S.C., and sophomore Nick Green earned a selection onto the All-District IV team.

The finish was good enough to qualify the Cavaliers for the national championship in May, but it still wasn’t as strong a performance as desired, head Darton golf coach Bill Jones said.

“We’re so much more talented… we’re just not getting anything out of these rounds,” he said.

The Cavaliers finished the 54-hole tournament with 887 strokes, or 35 shots over par. They finished the final round  17-over with 301 strokes today.

Brevard Community College won, finishing round three 7-over to accumulate a tournament total of 861 strokes, or 9-over par. Central Alabama finished second with 867 strokes, and Wallace State fell from second to third with 880 total strokes after shooting a 301 today.

Taylor Martin’s 72 led the Cavaliers today. Parks Brown shot 75 today, Tae Kim shot 76, Green shot 78 and Madison Turner’s 81 was scratched.

It was announced at the tournament that Green, a Covington native, was voted into the All-District team. His accomplishments this season include medalist honors at the Faulkner Invitational, where he had a second-round score of 68 at the par-72 Rock Creek Golf Club in Fairhope, Ala.
