West Georgia Tech sweeps Southern Crescent
CARROLLTON, Ga. – The West Georgia Tech men’s and women’s basketball teams swept conference rival Southern Crescent Tech on the road Saturday night.
The women won 93-27 and then the men won the nightcap 79-59.

West Georgia Tech cruised past Southern Crescent 79-59 behind a 19-point effort from Ryan Jones.
The Golden Knights improved to 10-13 overall and evened their conference record at 3-3. Southern Crescent fell to 4-2 in the conference. The win avenged a tough 88-86 loss at home to the Tigers back on January 14.
Jones shot 8-of-9 from the field and was perfect from three-point range (1-of-1) and from the free-throw line (2-of-2). He also pulled down eight rebounds.
Alyja Hennings scored 16 points and also grabbed eight rebounds for WGTC.
James Dewitt led SCTC with 23 points.
WGTC shot 50 percent from the field while winning the battle on the boards by three, 41-38.
The Golden Knights held the Tigers to just 27 percent shooting (20-of-74).
West Georgia Tech returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to Hanceville, Ala., to take on Wallace State C.C. The next conference game is set for next Friday at home against Georgia Northwestern.
WGTC Women 93, Southern Crescent 27
Ta’Corria Mann scored 30 points and grabbed eight boards to lead the Golden Knights women over Southern Crescent 93-27.
The Golden Knights have won five straight and six of its last seven to improve to 10-14 overall, 4-1 in conference play.
Mann was 14-of-19 from the field and 1-of-1 from three-point range.
Sha’Ron Forte added 21 points and Victoria Conner scored 16 to round out the double-figure scoring for West Georgia Tech.
WGTC held Southern Crescent to just 27-percent shooting and just 1-of-13 shooting from long-range.
The win sets up a huge conference tilt with Georgia Northwestern next Friday at home. Georgia Northwestern is a half-game ahead of WGTC in the standings at 4-0. The Knights dropped the previous meeting this season but could be playing for at least a share of the regular season crown when the two teams meet again.
But first West Georgia Tech will host Gadsden State in LaGrange Thursday night at 7 pm.
