Lady Titans win GCAA Championship; Louisiana bound.
The Lady Titans used a powerful inside game and it proved to be too much in defeating the Lady Jets and capturing the title 94-83. Central Georgia Tech came into the tournament as the number three seed, and had an all business mindset during the GCAA women's tournament. And in doing so won their first ever GCAA women's title.
In the first semifinal game, SGTC ended the season for East Georgia 80-75 moving the Lady Jets to the title game. The second game, the Central Georgia Tech eliminated the Lady Titans of Albany Tech 96-70 setting up tonight's title game.
Both teams started strong in the first quarter with both teams battling and SGTC finished the first quarter with a 30-20 lead. SGTC outscored the Lady Titans in quarter two cutting the lead to 6 going into half with a Titan 46-40 lead.
The Lady Jets continued to cut into the Titan lead in third quarter trailing by one point going into the final quarter. CGTC continued to get the ball down low and wore down their opponent and continued to increase their lead and outscoring the Jets 25-15 in the fourth and Titans finished with a 94-83 win.
CGTC's Laterria Green led all scorers with 34 points, Amira Walters-Smith had 21, Aryana Thomas had 16. Taja Bennett led the Jets with 27 points, GCAA Player of the Year Ja'Niya Broome added 18.
Laterria Green was named the tournament MVP. Kaiya Carter was also named to the All-Tournament team from SCTC. Ja'Niya Broome and Taja Bennet from SGTC, Chloe Evans from Albany Tech and Malia Haney from East Georgia were the other members selected.
Next stop for the Lady Titans will be the NJCAA National Tournament in Lake Charles, LA.
