ALBANY – The Lady Cavaliers have won the regular season championship, and will enter the NJCAA Region 17 Championship as the No. 1-seeded tournament hosts.
And they looked good doing it as Darton punished East Georgia College 81 – 38 Wednesday to clinch it. The win came after the NJCAA announced earlier that morning that the program has reached its highest ever ranking – No. 12 in the nation.
Darton certainly looked like a top program Wednesday as Chanteniece Fann scored 16 points, Kadayasha Jones scored 13 and Jasmine Wilson scored 11 and made 10 assists. The Lady Cavaliers again showed their depth as Crystal Reed and Vanessa Akra came off the bench to score 9 and 8 points, respectively. All 12 members of Darton’s roster got some court-time Wednesday.
Darton held a 52-point lead late in the second half and sunk 32 of 64 field goals. They were good all over the court, and had 36 defensive rebounds and 10 steals.
It was the team’s 13th straight win at home, where they are undefeated, and its 25th win of the season, which is the most in the history of the program.
Darton is now 25-3 overall and 17-2 in Region 17. The Lady Cavs will enter the Region Championship semi-finals on March 1. Game times have not been announced
