Kansas bound: Darton State College Basketball wins District J Final

ALBANY – The Darton State College Lady Cavaliers beat Denmark Technical College 75-55 in the District J Championship, Friday, and have qualified to become one of 16 teams who will play for a national title March 18-23, in Salina, Kan.

In a Cavalier Arena packed with students all wearing white, the Lady Cavaliers put on a lively show and dominated the game.

Darton’s Michelle Mitchell led the game with 22 points, 8 rebounds and four assists. Sophomore Chanteniece Fann scored 10 and managed 8 rebounds, while Jasmine Wilson and Kadayasha Jones each added nine points in Darton’s favor.

Darton outrebounded Denmark 72-37. Jones collected an astounding 17 rebounds and teammate Iesha Bonner snagged 14.

Darton stayed in control throughout the entire game, and had its strongest lead in the second half – a 29-point margin of 59-30.

The big win gives Darton its first opportunity to compete at the national championship since 2001. It was the program’s 30th win of the season, a school record, and brings the Cavaliers to a 30-3 record.

Darton won every single game they hosted in the Cavalier Arena this season – which is also a program first. They finished 18-0 at home.

They’ve achieved their highest national ranking ever as well – a current No. 11 in the NJCAA poll.
