Lady Knights top Emmanuel
LAGRANGE, Ga. – Ta’Corria Mann had a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Golden Knights over the Emmanuel College J.V. 65-40 Wednesday night.
The Knights improved to 2-8 overall on the season.
Mann was 7-of-15 from the field and 1-of-4 from three-point range. Six of her 12 rebounds were on the offensive glass.
The Golden Knights fell behind 8-1 in the game’s first four minutes but went on a 16-5 run over the next 13 minutes to lead 17-13 with 3:53 remaining in the half. West Georgia Tech closed the half on a 10-0 run to take a commanding halftime lead of 27-15.
WGTC head coach Kenny Edwards was pleased with the way his squad played, particularly in the latter stages of the first half.
“I am very proud of my team tonight,” Edwards said. “We came out sluggish and flat in the first half. We were playing on our heels and it seemed like we were stuck in quick-sand and couldn't move. I believe the slow start was due the Thanksgiving break. The last eight minutes of the half we started playing Knights basketball. We started attacking both on the offensive and defensive end, playing our game.”
The visiting Lions closed the gap to 27-23 to open the second half. But then West Georgia Tech took control of the contest with an impressive 34-3 run over the next twelve minutes.
Victoria Conner (14 points on 6-of-10 shooting) and Sha’Ron Forte (12 points) also scored in double-figures for West Georgia Tech.
Kita Smith led Emmanuel College with 16 points.
WGTC was strong on the defensive end, holding Emmanuel to just 20.3 percent shooting from the field. The Lions were a paltry 5-of-26 from three-point range (19.2 percent).
West Georgia Tech forced 33 turnovers and had 21 steals.
“We will go to work and work hard the next few days in practice to prepare ourselves for next week’s tough stretch of games. We will take it one game at a time, working hard to become the best team we can be,” Edwards said.
The Golden Knights will return to action on December 6th at Denmark Tech in Bamberg, S.C.
