Macon – There is no time like the present or better yet a back to back conference championship for the South Georgia State College Hawks.
The No. 2 seed SGSC Hawks denied a buzzer ending tip in bucket from the top seed Central Georgia Tech Titans to win 75-74 Saturday afternoon to capture their second GCAA Tournament Championship in three years.
Saturday's win avenges SGSC's two regular season losses to the Titans. C. Georgia Tech left Waycross back in early February with an 76-74 win and defeated the Hawks 90-67 three weeks earlier in Macon. The Hawks also avenged their other regular season conference loss to the GHC Chargers by defeating them in last Tuesday's quarterfinal game 72-62 to make it into this weekend's final four.
This game was close from start to finish as neither team led by more than three points at any time during the game. South Georgia State took a 1-point lead (34-33) at halftime. The second half came down to the last few seconds as Reggie White was fouled with 3.5.seconds left. White converts both free throws giving the Hawks a one point lead. CGTC had one last chance but a missed shot on a lob in under the basket at the buzzer gave the Hawks the win.
Reggie White led the Hawks with 18 points, 4 rebounds, three assists, and 1 steal. Kyric Davis had 16 points, five rebounds, and two assists. Tournament MVP Jeremy Anderson had 17 points, Chandler Thomas had 12 and Trey Callaway 10 points. Roosevelt Brown led all scorers with 24 points for the Titans.
Saturday's win marks the fourth title in the last 6 years for the Hawks. Also, the win makes the Hawks the NJCAA Southeast District Champions and gives them an automatic bid to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas March 23-30, 2026.
Seeding for the national tournament will take place later today during the NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball Selection Show.
